The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is participating in the European Heritage Days 2025 (EHD).

The European Heritage Days, under the auspices of the Council of Europe since 1985 and with the participation of the European Union since 1999, constitute one of the most important participatory cultural events in Europe. They take place every September with the involvement of the 50 countries that have signed the European Cultural Convention.

The aim of this institution is to raise awareness among European citizens about the richness and cultural diversity of Europe, to combat racism and xenophobia, and to encourage greater tolerance both within Europe and beyond its borders. At the same time, it seeks to inform the public and the authorities about the need to protect cultural heritage against new threats, as well as to mobilise Europe to respond to the social, political, and economic challenges it faces.

Greece has participated in the celebration of the EHD since 1996, with the Directorate of Archaeological Museums, Exhibitions and Educational Programmes of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture serving as the national coordinator of the programme.

Within the framework of the European Heritage Days 2025, with the central theme “Architectural Heritage: Bridging the Past with the Future”, the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is planning the following activities:

  • 26 September | 11:00–12:00 | Outdoor exhibition “Memory and Stones”

THEMATIC TOUR
“An introduction to the diverse architectural monuments of ancient Thessaloniki and the functions they served throughout their long history up to the present day.”

  • 27 & 28 September | 10:30–12:30 | Hall of the Archaic Temple

THEMATIC TOUR AND ARTISTIC ACTIVITY
“The three burials of the Ionic temple at Antigonidon Square. 25 centuries of a difficult survival journey of a major building, both outside and within the urban fabric of Thessaloniki.”

On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September, admission to the museum will be free.
