The Association was founded in 1985 at the behest of the late Julia Vokotopoulou, ephor of antiquities and then-director of the Ephorate of Antiquities, to which the Archaeological Museum belonged at the time. It became an independent unit with a Presidential Decree in 2002.
The Association's founding statute was based on relevant European Associations. Its main aims were the auxiliary actions to the work of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
During its thirty years of activity, until 2015, the Association supported the museum through exhibitions, publications and events. It also organised a multitude of archaeological trips, both in Greece and abroad, with tours by special scientists, many public lectures and various other scientific, educational and social events.
its members exceed 500, with special museum privileges, while many of them offer volunteer work on a permanent basis on various events of the Archaeological Museum.
Any person wishing to become a member can do so with a simple application and a yearly subscription of 25 Euros (National Bank of Greece, account no. 210/938654-89), from Tuesday to Thursday from 11:00 to 13:00, at the A.M.Th offices, where its presidium is also present.
