“The three burials of the Ionic temple at Antigonidon Square. 25 centuries of a difficult survival journey of a major building, both outside and within the urban fabric of Thessaloniki.”
A tour and presentation for the public (adults and children) about the architectural members of the Archaic temple at Antigonidon Square and about the history of its construction, dismantling, reconstruction, abandonment, excavation, reburial, and preservation: a story involving Trojans, Greeks, Romans, an episcopal throne, building contractors, archaeologists, an old postcard, and today’s Civil Society.
This will be followed by a drawing/ artistic activity in which participants will visually capture their perception of the temple’s history (with the guidance of a visual artist).
The activity will conclude with a transfer - via the Thessaloniki Metro - to the site where the foundations of the temple remain reburied, and with a discussion about its recent history with the President of the Association of Friends of the Monuments of Thessaloniki.
