The Department of Metalwork and Minor Arts Collections and Exhibitions is dedicated to the research, documentation, preservation, and promotion of museum artifacts which date from the prehistoric era to the late Roman period and include:
- Vessels, figurines, utensils, model objects (miniatures), statues, weapons, jewelry, tools, and other types of artifacts that are either entirely made of metal, or metal-coated, or composed of metal in combination with other materials (e.g., metal jewelry with precious stones),
- Coins, tokens and weights,
- Works of minor art (jewelry, tools, seal stones, and other types of artifacts) made of all materials except clay, faience, glass, and organic substances.
The Department also manages and implements research and co-funded programs, organizes exhibitions (with archaeological, cultural-historical, and/or artistic content), develops scientific and outreach activities, and supports researchers' access to archaeological material. It makes use of digital technologies, produces educational content, and organizes lectures and conferences in collaboration with other institutions and Museum departments.
