Dr. Anna Michailidou was born and educated in Thessaloniki. A graduate and Doctor of Philosophy from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, she worked for five years at the same university as an assistant to Professor Manolis Andronikos in the Department of Classical Archaeology. She then spent four years at Ekdotiki Athinon as an editor and publisher of archaeological guides. Subsequently, she worked as a researcher at the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF). In 2000, she was appointed Research Director, and in 2011, she became Deputy Director of the Centre for Greek and Roman Antiquity at the NHRF.

She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the NHRF, the Board of the Archaeological Society of Athens, and the Research Committee of the International Hellenic University in Thessaloniki.

Currently, she holds the title of Emerita Research Director at the Institute of Historical Research of the NHRF. She is also a member of the Boards of Directors of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki (AMTH) and the Society for the Study of Ancient and Byzantine Technology (EDAVyT). From 2013 to 2017, she organized the Summer School on Ancient Greek Technology for international scholars at the International Hellenic University of Thessaloniki.

Since 1976, she has been an active member of the excavation and research team of the Archaeological Society at the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri, Thera. Her scholarly work—published in academic journals, international conferences, and edited volumes—focuses on Minoan architecture, prehistoric metallurgy and metalcraft, ancient metrology, the Linear A and B scripts, and the pre-coinage economies of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.
