Styliana Galiniki is the Head of the Directorate of Collections and Exhibitions at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
She studied Archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a PhD from the School of Architecture (Sector III: Architectural Language, Communication & Design) of the National Technical University of Athens. Her doctoral dissertation examines the social uses of antiquity in the construction of Thessaloniki’s identity, through the case study of modern public sculpture.
Her research interests, as reflected in publications and presentations at national and international conferences, focus on the management of cultural heritage and its role in constructing and performing social identity, memory politics in public space, the dialectical relationship between antiquities, visual arts, and literary works, as well as the history of archaeological research.
A particular area of her research is the relationship between museums and literature, which she explores through theatrical and digital projects that she has conceived and implemented at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki. In parallel, she employs performance-based practices as tools for the interpretation and management of “difficult heritage” in public space, with a focus on memory and its material traces. She has also studied theatre at the “Studio Parathlasi” and has published two literary works.
