In collaboration with the Special Vocational Education and Training Laboratory of Kilkis. A cultural, artistic, and socially oriented initiative is beginning to take shape through the works created by the students of the SVETL Kilkis on the loom and knitting machines of their school’s textile workshop.

In October 2024, the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki (AMTh) and the Special Vocational Education and Training Laboratory (EEEEK) of Kilkis signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of linking cultural heritage with the vocational education of people with disabilities. Within this framework, decorative themes from prehistoric exhibits of the Museum serve as inspiration for the design of contemporary artworks by Chrysanthi Fotiadou, a permanent fine arts staff member of AMTh. These artworks are then crafted by the students of EEEEK under the valuable guidance of the workshop’s supervisor, textile technologist.

Furthermore, on Thursday, May 8, the General Director of AMTh, Dr. Anastasia Gadolou, is scheduled to visit the school’s facilities in Kilkis to engage with the students and the school principal, Eleni Techlikidou.

The art of knitting and weaving, the threads, textures, and colors, will be showcased in a temporary exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki upon completion of the works. The exhibition will center around the “thread” that connects ancient and contemporary art, while also offering access to historical knowledge and creativity to people with disabilities within the Museum’s spaces.
