The Association of Greek Archaeologists, the Department of Antiquities of the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus, and the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki are pleased to invite you to the screening of the documentary “Excavations”, a production of the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, directed by Danae Stylianou.

Fifty years after the coup and the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, Cypriot and foreign archaeologists, as well as former staff of the Department of Antiquities, revisit personal memories, trace the collective trauma of war, and outline its impact on Cypriot archaeology. Weaving together archival footage from excavations with deeply moving personal testimonies, the 87-minute documentary “Excavations” sheds light on pivotal moments in Cypriot archaeology, before and after the tragic events of 1974.

The screening will be attended by the Director of the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, Mr. Georgios Georgiou, and the Honorary Curator of Byzantine Antiquities, Ms. Euterpi Marki. A discussion on the events of the time will follow.
