The international workshop, organized by the Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece, brought together researchers of ancient quarries from across the Mediterranean basin to share recent developments and ongoing research on the study of ancient stone extraction practices.
Through a combination of case study presentations at the headquarters of the Swiss School in Athens and on-site visits to quarries in Euboea, the workshop focused on the research challenges involved in studying the traces of ancient quarrying activity and the latest advances in this specialized field.
The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki was represented by Dr. Angeliki Koukouvou, Head of the Department of Publications and Digital Applications.
