The musical composition by Giorgos Koumendakis, The Pedal Tone for a Child, in three parts, enters into dialogue with Ancient Tragedy.
A narrator–performer–dancer dances and recounts the sacrifice of Iphigenia (Iphigenia in Aulis, Euripides), the unjust death of Astyanax (Trojans, Euripides), and, finally, the condemnation of Antigone (Antigone, Sophocles).,

Giorgos Koumendakis states about the work:“In the first part of the piece, a melody, riding an improvised dance, comes from the East overcoming every obstacle. The instruments swirl in improbable combinations of timbres and in endless rhythmic gallops. The notes are transformed into a tender wave of nostalgia. In the second part, the orchestra’s musicians play with the vowel ‘ο’ (omicron) and various combinations of consonants, making the pedal tone seem like a piece drawn from the sounds of nature. Around it, melodies coil, spinning in perpetual circles and travelling from instrument to instrument with the child's imagination as a fellow traveler. A war dance from Pontus is the theme of the third part. The musicians become warriors. They reach extreme states and surpass their personal limits in a battle with time, looking toward a better future”.
Four performances will be given on July 28, 29, 30 and 31.
