The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki will host on Tuesday, 18 November, at 20:00, the theatrical performance by the National Theatre of Northern Greece (NTNG) titled “Mama Loba. Nights with Myths” — a journey through diverse cultures, where myths and fairy tales take on body and voice on stage.

Written and directed by Polyxeni Spyropoulou, the performance draws on the emotion of the present and the memory of the collective unconscious, bringing to life symbols, images, and rituals that reveal the untamed and free nature of the human soul.

The concept is the result of research and creative exploration into Greek, Celtic, Native American, and Slavic/Balkan mythology. Its sources of inspiration include Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ Women Who Run with the Wolves, the writings of Eugenio Barba and Carl Jung, as well as collections and studies of myths, women’s storytelling circles, personal experiences, and archaeological and anthropological research.

At its core lies the wild, free nature of the soul—the instincts, wisdom, mystical ecstasy, faith, freedom, and awareness that connect femininities with the She-Wolf Mother and the Moon. These tales expand the space between darkness and light, myth and truth, reason and imagination, creating a realm of forest and transcendence, with their claws firmly anchored in lived experience.
Stories with body and voice, symbols, music, images, and rituals come alive through the emotion of the present and the memory of the collective unconscious.

Director’s Note

Mama Loba knows the places where you hide your secrets, your wounds, and your powers. She brings them all to light—gently yet powerfully. She shows you the cycles of life, pushes you to move forward, to be patient, to listen to your truths even when you’re afraid. She teaches peace and justice amidst violence and despair. A journey of initiation through the tools of theatre and performance. A sharing. A wish. For freedom!
