A discussion on the birth and gradual formation of an ancient city in the Mediterranean world. The four speakers, each from their own disciplinary perspective, will explore different aspects of Rome during the Republican era. Founding myths, spatial perceptions and power relations, lived experiences and literary expressions of collective memory and ancestral grandeur are among the topics that will be presented and analyzed through historical, anthropological, philological, and legal lenses.

Beyond the Roman case, the approaches of the four speakers may also offer insight into other Mediterranean societies and political entities.
