BioMuse | From bone fragments to human stories

09 Apr - 15 Jul 2022

The temporary exhibition is organized subsequent to the research program BioΜuse, which is the outcome of the synergy between Greek and German institutions aiming at digitizing, documenting and preserving valuable biological and cultural heritage data.

The project's core idea was to narrate the individual biographies that resulted from studying the skeletal remains of actual humans who lived in Greece over the last 11,000 years.

The creation of “individual biographies” was based on applying analytical and cutting-edge imaging technologies, in order to reconstruct the daily life, diet and genetic history of the individuals in question.

The exhibition showcases and incorporates the research results via modern physical and digital means. It features exhibition panels that display individual biographies, an interactive application that provides information on the biographies and the research itself in an augmented reality environment, and an audiovisual production.

The exhibition is organized by the Laboratory of Physical Anthropology of the Democritus University of Thrace and Tetragon SA, in collaboration with the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
