The periodical exhibition “Archaeology & Me” is a coorganization of Atristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
The exhibition is a follow-up to the European competition “You (r) Archaeology”. The competition was co-ordinated by IBC (Instituto per I Beni Culturali) of Italy, in the framework of NEARCH program, in the spring and summer of 2015. The competition asked all European citizens the following questions: What is archaeology? An adventure? A pain in the neck? The appeal of the past, the magic of marvellous sites, the boredom of a dusty museum?
Eighty eight selected works from the competition form the collection of this exhibition which was first presented at the Palazzo Massimo in Rome in December 2016 and will be hosted at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki this year.
The exhibition is one of the many actions of the NEARCH European program, funded by the European Commission and implemented by 14 partners in 10 European countries. Greece participates with the Department of History and Archeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and with local coordinator the professor emeritus of prehistoric archeology, Kostas Kotsakis. The aim of the project is to illustrate the perception of archaeology and archaeological heritage by the citizens of the European Union, as well as the role of archeology in contemporary society
