The book was published to accompany the temporary exhibition organised by the A.M.Th. and the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, from Apri 2014 to April 2015 in Thessaloniki.

The book presents the phenomenon of Greek colonisation, mainly through the coins of the Alpha Bank Collection and other exhibits, maps and rich accompanying material about the Greek colonies now located in modern European countries (southern Italy and Sicily, southern France, Spain, the Adriatic coast, the Black Sea), as well as a complete catalogue of the exhibits of the temporary exhbition.
